Choosing Optical Drives for your

Custom PC

There are basically 3 different modules to consider for your PC.  Ideally you need at least one of them in your system otherwise installing the Operating System will be a little tricky...

CD/DVD RAM - These units are the latest drives for playing back pre-recorded CDs and DVDs.  depending on your system they will either be SATA (our preferred option) or IDE.  We recommend you included one of these drives and compliment it with a DVD Writer.  This allows you to copy from disc to disc rather than having to use the Hard Drive.

CD/DVD Writer - Again, by default these are the latest High Speed Dual Layer SATA optical drives and allow recording direct to CD or DVD - up to 8.5GB of storage on a DVD dual layer disc!

Blu- Ray / HD Drive - Care - two alternatives.  the Blu-Ray Readers and the Blu-Ray Writers.  The first will playback Blu-Ray discs but will only allow records to CD & DVD.  The latter will allow recording to Blu-Ray and CD/DVD; an essential component of any High Definition system!

• ASUS - our primary supplier
• LG
• Liteon
• NEC/Sony
