Choosing a Custom PC for
Music
When it comes to selecting a Custom PC that is to be used for Music, there are a few fundamental considerations to take into account:-
-
Integrated components such as Graphics and Sound should be avoided - they draw power away from the processor and can make a noticeable difference to the trained ear.
-
Latency - is becoming less of a problem as technology advances. However, to reduce the impact of latency on your work, choose the most powerful processor you can afford and compliment this with 2GB of RAM if running a 32 bit Operating System, increasing ideally to 4GB with a 64 bit Operating System.
-
RAM - To reduce the impact of latency further, these utilise specialist low latency memory. Coupled to the current DDR2 standard this ensurs blistering speeds.
-
Sound Cards - We have provided a very basic selection here because we appreciate that keen musicians will often have their own external sound cards or prefer something a little more special. If you fall into the latter category, contact us for pricing.
-
Attaching instruments - this often done via an external breakout box which in turn is connected to the PC via USB or Firewire. If you need additional Firewire Ports, add them in the Accessories Section.
-
If you prefer a PC from a different section on the site, order in the usual way, but when the acknowledgement comes through, e-mail us quoting the reference number and state its proposed use.
